ABOUT ME:
My name is Neal Gough. I was born in Malden MA and grew up in Waterville ME. This is where I fell in love with the game of basketball. My mom and dad enrolled me in a basketball youth league at the YMCA. Thank you to both my parents and the Waterville YMCA for that. I spent much of my youth at the YMCA working on my game. Summers were spent at basketball camps at Waterville High School, Lawrence High School, Colby College, and the University of Maine.
After playing for Waterville High School I was lucky enough to play Division III basketball for the University of Maine at Augusta. I started all 33 games I played at the University of Maine at Augusta. During the off-season after my Freshman season I had knee surgery. After my knee surgery my nurse happened to be the wife of Lawrence High School and Maine Basketball Coaching Legend Mike McGee. I was told that Coach McGee was looking for a Freshman Coach and I should call him.
Coach McGee offered me the Freshman Boys Coaching position and a Varsity Assistant Coaching position. At 21 years of age I began my coaching career at my rival high school. For two seasons I coached the Freshman then I had the opportunity to move to the Junior Varsity Boys position, where I stayed for three seasons. After five seasons at Lawrence and turning down two Varsity jobs in Maine I decided to move to California.
This is where I found another love my wife Debbie and my son Marcus. Marcus was a superstar athlete. He was a football and track star at Clovis North High School. This is where the idea for Crossover Basketball Recruiting started for me. We worked with another recruiting company dishing out thousands of dollars to that company. Where I didn't mind the money we have no clue what they did for Marcus. There was zero communication, no follow up, and emails plus phone calls would go unanswered or not returned.
I decided at that time I wanted to do something similar for student athletes that love the game of basketball. Where we will be charging a fee, and I can not promise your son will go to Duke, Fresno State, or the University of Maine. I also can't promise you that your son will get a scholarship, however what I can promise you and your son is a real evaluation of his ability, a real idea of what level he could play at and someone that cares about your son's future. I am someone that wants you to succeed, and we will have weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly communication along the way depending which package is picked. We will discuss, your game, schools, how your grades are, we will even go into nutrition and workouts if you choose that route. I will work as hard for you as you would for your son. Basketball is a true passion of mine and after getting some advice from a very well respected retired basketball coach I am going to "follow my heart" and this is the best way I know how. Let's get to work.
